Algerian Coffee Stores

Algerian Coffee Stores, Soho — Since 1887

The coffee Duncan brings to your door in the morning comes from Algerian Coffee Stores on Old Compton Street in Soho, where it has been roasted and sold from the same shop, behind the same original counter, since 1887.

The store was founded by an Algerian merchant whose name the shop still carries. It survived the Blitz when the buildings around it did not. It passed through three families before settling with the Crocettas, whose grandfather bought it in 1946. Paul Crocetta arrived from Naples, married into the family, took over the business in the late 1970s and built it into what it is today. His daughters Daniela and Marisa represent the fourth generation. The counter has not moved.

A stock sheet from the 1940s lists coffees from India, Jamaica, Cameroon, Madagascar, Congo and Brazil. The range today is wider. The approach is the same: find interesting beans from around the world and sell them to people who know the difference.

We chose Algerian Coffee Stores because the coffee is exceptional, and because a shop that has done one thing well from the same address for nearly 140 years deserves a home that takes provenance seriously.

Silent Pool Gine

Silent Pool Gin

The Silent Pool Distillery, Albury, Surrey.

Kingsley House Guests can receive a complimentary tour space when booking for two - please ask Duncan for the booking code.

Silent Pool Gin is a beautifully balanced and aromatic expression of 24 botanicals inspired by the abundance of flowers and herbs in the Surrey Hills that surround the distillery. You will find the distillery in Albury, adjacent to the ancient Silent Pool. This stunning spring-fed pool gives the gin its name and inspires its much-admired teal bottle.

Here, they create a London Dry Gin of uncompromising quality: aromatic, smooth, and beautifully balanced, with incredible depth of flavour.

The recipe requires a complex four-stage distillation process to perfect and each step is overseen at the distillery by our highly skilled team of distillers. Their award-winning 90-minute distillery tours take you behind the scenes to see how and where they make the gin. The tour includes a guided tasting and you can relax at our Terrace Bar which overlooks the Silent Pool itself.

Apothecary 27

71-73 Weyhill, Haslemere

“I’ve spent over twenty years in the health and wellness industry, watching beautifully packaged supplements fall short where it matters - under dosed, poorly absorbed, or both. Apothecary 27 exists to change that. ”

South Downs Water

South Downs Water

More than just bottled water, South Downs Natural Mineral Water offers a genuine taste of the region. Sourced from an artesian spring on the Sussex–Hampshire border, just 24 miles from Kingsley House, choosing water from so close to home helps reduce food miles while supporting a local, independent producer. In addition to the glass bottles they have bottles made from recycled plastic which are also recyclable.

The water begins its journey more than 400 feet underground, slowly filtering through the chalk layers of the South Downs. This natural process gives it its distinctive mineral character: high in calcium, low in sodium, and bottled without chemical treatment or processing. Nothing is added and nothing is taken away - apart from the bubbles added to the sparkling water range.

There is more than a century of history in every bottle. The spring was first opened in 1918, supplying water to the Ministry of Defence during the First World War. The site became an ice factory in 1928 before the well eventually fell out of use. Decades later, it was rediscovered almost by chance in a storeroom. Tests confirmed the exceptional quality of the source, and on 7 April 1990, the Windsor family began bottling South Downs Water once again.

Today, it gives guests at Kingsley House the opportunity to enjoy something distinctly local, water that is shaped by the geology and history of the South Downs.
